The Beholder!!!

9/7/2014

Attendance: Dragon, Azarra, Whitecat, Baggles

We leave the lava room and head to the stairs to head down to the next level. Once entering the room, we see a horned demon and 8 human magicians with a scythe in one hand and crystal ball in the other.  The huge horned demon points to us and says, “Kill them, they have done me a favor and brought me a piece of the amulet so I can conquer the world!”

Whitecat swings his weapon and the creatures absorb the blow. Azarra casts smite and the spell fizzles out. Azarra shoots one of the humans with her bow and he crumples and dies.

Dragon casts chain lightning and hits the humans. Three of them crumple under the chain lightning and die. The creatures cast a spell and dissolve part of the armor of Baggles and Whitecat. Azarra’s magic cloak gets obliterated.

The demon swings at Baggles and hits him on the head, killing him instantly. Azarra fires and arrow at the demon, but it just bounces off.

Whitecat attacks the demon and his mace hits the demon in the neck, snapping the bones, killing him. Dragon attacks the remaining humans with his chain lightning, and kills three more.

Whitecat raises his shield and it is hit and crumbles to dust. Whitecat attacks the last human and kills him.

We find the last amulet on the demon and also crystals on the humans containing spell points. Azarra tries to detect magical properties on the amulet, but the power is too immense and thus undeterminable.

We find a pouch on the demon that can hold 10k lbs of stuff, yet weighs light as a feather. Inside the pouch, we find 52k lbs of gold and 5 gems. The 5 gems are as follows: a moss agate worth only 11 gold, a silver pearl worth 90 gold, an amethyst worth 100 gold, a blue sapphire worth 900 gold and a blue diamond worth 8,000 gold, all with no magical properties.

We carry the scythe weapons to the magical alter. Whitecat puts his mace on the magical alter as well, which makes it a holy mace, doing d10 holy damage. We suddenly are able to detect the magical properties of the amulet and finds that it prevents all magical attacks.

We successfully resurrect Baggles and travel up one floor of the dungeon. As we are entering the next floor, we see a huge head floating who says, “I see, you gathered my amulet for me. Only one piece is missing and now I will kill you!”

A laser shoots out one of the eyes of the beholder’s head and hits Dragon, knocking him unconscious. The laser shoots out again at Whitecat, but fizzles out right before hitting him. The beholder charm’s Baggles. The beholder also tries to cast fear, but everyone resists. The beholder then casts pain and we all take 10 points of body damage despite resisting successfully (if we didn’t resist, we would have taken 20 points of damage).

Moerderin blasts a laser at the beholder, but it is absorbed by a shield. Moerderin then casts lightning, but it is also absorbed by a shield in front of the beholder. It gets further through the shield than the laser, but still doesn’t hit the beholder.

Azarra heals Dragon and then casts smite on the beholder and he screams in pain. The beholder then shoots two laser beams into Azarra and knocks her unconscious. Baggles succumbs to the fear cast by the beholder.

Dragon claws the face of the beholder. Eventually, after a long battle Whitecat swings and hits the beholder’s eye and blood squirts out in all directions, then the beholder falls down and dies.
