The Amber Amulet of Magic

10/20/2013

Attendance: Dragon, Moerderin, Azarra, Whitecat, Baggles, Qualin.

We travel towards the amulet (the black circle on the map below).

After getting into battle formation, with Dad and Nick out in front, we encounter fire demons and a grimlock (a cross between and ogre and an orc).

Battle formation:

Fire demons:

Grimlock:

Four demons fly into the air and fight Dragon and Moerderin while the other two attack the ground fighters.

The four demons and Dragon and Moerderin in the top formation are really just in the air, but directly above the bottom two demons and the rest of our group (the are separated for viewing purposes):

The flighted demons attack Moerdin with double attacks. Moerderin dodges six of the attacks, but still takes two hits. He takes three damage to the left arm, with his armor protecting twelve points.

Azarra enchants an arrow and hits a demon, but it merely bounces off the demon’s skin.

Moerderin begins punching one of the demons. He hits one of the demons, but his punch also bounces off the demon’s skin. This tells us that the demons have at least 9 points of protection (damage must be over 9 to begin to hurt the demons).

The demons attack Azarra and she only dodges two of the attacks. She is takes six points of damage to her chest and six to her left shoulder.

The demons attack Moerderin, but he successfully dodges.

The demons attack Dragon and do one point of damage to his chest (Dragon only dodges two attacks), two to his left arm, five to his head and seven to his left thigh (he has five points protection due to his scales). Dragon breathes fire on one of the demons and the demon falls down unconscious.

Qualin does a ground attack on one of the demons. She hits using her “great blow” which completely disables his right arm (her axe is magical). Baggles attacks the same demon and chops off the demon’s leg with his axe. Instead of blood, fire spews out of the demon’s leg. The demon falls down unconscious.

Two demons down and four to go:

Whitecat casts imbue weapon and then swings his mace and crushes the heel of the demon. Fire spews out of the foot and the demon slowly falls into unconsciousness.

Moerderin flies down to the ground bringing two of the remaining three demons within range of the ground fighters.

One demon attacks Whitecat, hitting him square in the abdomen and does seven points of damage (Whitecat deflected an additional seven points of damage). The demon attacks Qualin next. She only dodges two of the hits. Qualin takes 20 points of damage to her shield, which has 25 available points (five are left).

Dragon breathes on the remaining demon flying in the air. The demon screams in agony, but is still remaining in flight.

Qualin attacks one of the ground demons and hits his thigh, crunching his bone. Fire oozes out of his leg and he falls on the ground screaming in pain.

Baggles smashes the fallen demon in the chest and completely kills him.

Whitecat hits the grimlock in the head with his enchanted mace. The top half of the grimlock’s skull crushes inward and the creature falls down dead.

Azarra heals Whitecat. Moerderin flips up and over the demon and attacks him from the other side. He kicks the demon, but does no damage. Moerderin does his second attack and does two points of damage to his right arm. The demon screams as he receives a slash across his right arm. The demon flies away as he realizes he is in trouble.

The flighted demon also flies away and Dragon attempts to chase after him, but quickly realizes the demons are too fast and gives up the chase. Azarra heals Dragon and Whitecat heals the rest of the group.

We find a chest in the center of the room. We search the demons and find a magical axe (a “demon hunter’s axe”).

The black blob is a chest:

Azarra detects magic on the contents inside the chest, but does not detect any magic on the chest itself.

Qualin opens the chest and finds various items: nice looking boots, a copper amulet, brass rings, sea shells, a pearl worth 500 gold and 5000 gold. Azarra detects the magical property on the boots and finds that they are magical boots of speed, which double all attacks, defensive, etc.

Baggles gets the demon hunter’s axe which absorbs damage reduction from the enemy. Qualin gets the boots (we want Whitecat to have them, but they do not fit dwarfs).

Azarra puts on the ring she previously found, on which she failed twice to detect magical property. Everyone notices she turns the color of the stone wall behind her. It is a camouflage ring! Baggles thinks the ring will help him most and he wears it.

We sleep here, Whitecat having cast a wall to protect us, and all our spell points rejuvenated:

We walk into a huge cavernous room with lava bubbling up and slowly flowing in a hole in the wall. In the center of the room above the lava is a fiery hawk. The room is too hot and only Moerderin can approach the lava closer than ten feet.

The room is the big red "X."

Moerderin begins talking to the creature, who identifies himself as a phoenix. The phoenix tells us that only one is worthy to reach into the pool to grab the amulet.

Moerderin casts fire immunity on himself and reaches into the pool. He feels thick gooey stuff, smooth stone and then he hits something solid, like a bump on the bottom. He pulls out the object, which looks obsidian.

After pulling out the amulet (shown below), the phoenix tells him that he knew Moerderin was “the one” as soon as he came into the room. Then the phoenix leaves.

Amulet (ignore map in background):

Azarra detects magical property and discovers that the amulet gives 250 spell points to the one who wears it.

Whitecat puts on the amulet and it turns amber yellow. It is the amber amulet of magic.

We see a light on the far side of the room and Dragon flies towards it. It is a staircase to an outside opening. We decide to take the staircase and go up and out. It leads up to a small opening near the top of the volcano.

We see high in the sky a white dragon circling down coming towards us. Dragon knows that white dragons are notoriously vicious and evil, so he alerts us to the danger.

White dragon approaching for battle:

The white dragon nears us readying for attack. Whitecat casts divine favor on Dragon and Qualin which gives them +5 attack and +5 damage. The white dragon breaths on everyone in the triangle (shown below) and does ten points of damage to Dragon, Whitecat, and Baggles. Dragon breaths on the white dragon which does no damage.

Azarra uses her falchion and does 4 points of damage (bypassing the natural armor of 20 protection!) and hits the dragon in the neck. He screams in pain as the sword cuts right through his scales.

To be continued…

We all receive 7500 experience except Moerderin who receives 8000 (the extra 500 for casting fire immunity to reach into the pool).
