Journey to Karpathia

11/17/2013

Attendance: Dragon, Moerderin, Azarra, Whitecat, Baggles, Qualin

Azarra attempts to dodge the attacking thief, but she cannot move fast enough and takes a direct hit to her neck. The thief’s knife cuts deep and blood immediately begins to gush from the wound. Azarra crumples to the ground as she loses consciousness. She was the only one remaining awake, but now the group is a vulnerable, slumbering mass.

On the inside of the tower, Whitecat begins to stir, while two thieves are trying to tie him up. He feels his hammer in his hand, which encourages him. Quicker than the thieves can react, he mightily swings his hammer, which finds its target: One of the thief’s thighs. The hammer deals a crushing blow (18 points of damage), snapping bone, with shards of bone piercing through the skin. Blood pours from the wound and the thief screams in pain. The thief quickly loses consciousness due to pain and blood loss.

Across the room, Dragon also begins to wake up. He spots a nearby thief and breathes directly on him, doing 10 points of damage. Despite the attack, the thief attempts to return the attack wielding his knife. The thief, still being affected by the electric dragon breath, stumbles and incredulously trips and falls on his own knife, with it piercing him directly in the chest.

The thieves around the room continue to attack, one stabbing a sleeping Moerderin in the chest, another two stabbing Dragon in the thigh and foot with falchions (weapons which penetrate dragon armor). The pain from Dragon’s wound entice him back into unconsciousness.

Whitecat rushes over to Dragon and quickly heals him, returning complete health. Without a break, a thief lunges at Whitecat. Whitecat parries, but the thief slashes again too quickly for Whitecat to react. The blade strikes Whitecat directly in the head, knocking Whitecat out completely (11 points of damage!).

A thief stabs once again at Dragon, and sinks his knife into Dragon’s thigh. The thief slashes once more, but was clumsy this time and in a split second, he trips and hits the stone floor with his head knocking himself out. Dragon’s wound in the thigh painfully brings Dragon to the ground as he can no longer support his own weight.

Dragon casts his dragon spell, to turn into a dragon. This will give him much more protection, but the thieves attack him meanwhile. One thief hits Dragon square in the chest and sink right through his scales (8 points of damage). The other thief attacks, but accidentally drops his weapon.

The battle is turning and the thieves are beginning to lose confidence and stamina. One of the thieves from inside the tower begins to run away. Once transformed, Dragon flies off the ground and breathes on another thief and knocks him unconscious. The remaining thieves run away, knowing their lives are at stake. Finally, Baggles and Qualin wake from their magic-induced sleep.

Meanwhile, Azarra and Whitecat continue to lose blood from their neck and head wounds. Being the only two healers in the group, concern sets in. In a fit of desire to humiliate and protect the group, Moerderin strips the thief naked and stands guard while the rest of the group carries Azarra to get healed. They find a healer in the street and once Azarra is healed, she returns and heals Whitecat.

The group searches the thieves and find a crystal amulet, 6 high quality steel falchions and 4 throwing daggers.

Azarra detects no magic on the amulet and Whitecat finds it is worth 5 silver. Azarra picks up the amulet for further examination. She recognizes it as a one-time cast amulet, which can store spells, so the group decides to keep it.

The group turns back to the thief for information. They begin to torture him and find out that the thieves are after the five parts of the amulet and will continue to send higher and higher level creatures until they get the amulet. They also want the map from us.

Moerderin, with blood on his mind, kills the thief.

Before continuing on to Karpathia in search of the remains, the group spends two weeks working on spells and skills. In addition, they buy supplies and Whitecat and Baggles get the dragon scales customized into armor.

The groups continues towards Karpathia (green circle below) in the boat toward the girl’s remains. It takes three days of travel over sea (they wisely avoid travel over land).

After a few days’ of travel, the group arrives in Karpathia and begin the weeklong hike from Karpathis to the small town where the remains are located. While traveling, they notice a dust cloud following them and it becomes closer and closer each day. The group considers ambushing the group which forms the dust cloud, but the landscape is desert and there are no places to hide. Thus, they decide to continue to travel for the day. They camp, but ever alert, prepared for battle. This goes on for another two days, when the dust cloud encroaches on them, ready for battle.

The group falls into battle formation, as the foreign group approaches. Their leader yells out, “I am Lord Trindar. You must hand over the amulet and map because we are trying to save the world!”

The group states that they are perfectly capable of guarding the amulet themselves, but Lord Trindar says, “You will not be able to overcome the evil of the amulet. We need to destroy it.”

The group is not convinced and feels Lord Trindar may have ulterior motives. Azarra, with her quick speed, is the first to react and shoots an arrow at Lord Trindar. He attempts to parry, but the arrow is enchanted and goes right through his shield into his shoulder. Surprisingly, he does not scream out in pain and it appears that he is not phased at all by the arrow.

Dragon flies, by circling, 40 feet up overhead to gain a better attacking vantage point.
Lord Trindar’s group charges. Baggles is camouflaged so they pass right by him. Baggles strikes out at a horseback rider and hits him in the thigh. The horse rears as the hit affects him as well. The rider falls off unconscious.

Whitecat is attacked and attempts to parry, but fumbles and drops his weapon. The attacker takes advantage of the situation and hit him in the left leg, causing Whitecat to fall to the ground (9 points dmg).

Moerderin wants to gain a better attacking position and uses his fire jump to soar over the attacks and attack from the opposite side.

Qualin is angered and swings her mace at an attacker, hitting him right across the chest, but the attacker does not even flinch.

Whitecat realizes he is in trouble and heals himself and stands up.

Azarra switches to her falchion and attacks. The attacker parries with his shield, but the falchion cuts right through the shield, but stops right before cutting through his armor.

Dragon attacks but, like Azarra, cannot penetrate the armor of the attackers.

The attackers make their moves. One targets Moerderin, but gives him no more than a flesh wound on his arm. Another targets Dragon, but Dragon is too fast for him and easily parries. Azarra is targeted next and she attempts to parry, but she is too slow and is hit directly in the chest. She passes out from the blood loss of the deep wound.

Moerderin is surrounded by attackers and casts firebomb directly on himself. It is gravely damaging, but luckily Moerderin is resistant to fire so he only stuns himself for one round. The firebomb kills one of the attackers, causes an elf to drop his sword, a dwarf to drop his shield and a human to also drop his shield.

Qualin attacks the human and hits him in the right thigh. He falls down in pain, but is not unconscious.

Baggles uses his great blow, swinging with all his might and hits an attacker in the right shoulder and does 42 points of damage. Baggles cleaves off the shoulder of the human and the guy falls to the ground, with his life quickly draining from his body.

Whitecat turns and heals Azarra so she can rejoin the battle.

Baggles is hit from the side, in the right shoulder with a plasma blast and takes 23 points of damage. Qualin was also in the line of the plasma blast, but her ring absorbs 17 points of damage.

Dragon attacks a human, but is unable to penetrate his armor, despite the severity of the attacks.

Qualin attacks again, but her mace stops in midair, right before contacting flesh.

One of the final two attackers runs away. The other attacks Dragon and hits him in the face so hard that he is very near death (18 points dmg). The attacker quickly turns and hits Qualin in the head (4 points dmg).

Azarra runs over to Dragon and heals him. She is the fastest of the group and turns to attack the remaining guy. She has enchanted her sword and hits him directly in the chest, but once again the guy suffers no visible effects.

Baggles swings at the guy and kills him with a slice to the head.

The group finds 10,000 gold and a magical necklace from the attackers that adds 100 sp per day and block missle attacks. They decide that Dragon should wear this necklace.
